FAQs

Music is hard to discuss, even when you know what you want. We help clarify your vision by engaging in debate and discussion, and offering creative ideas in the early stages of pre-production.

We understand current market costs in all aspects of music use, from licensing commercial music to composer fees. We also understand that in pre-production it can be difficult to define your music budget. We help analyse your goals and provide realistic costs for your preliminary budget allocations.

Music copyright can be horribly complicated, convoluted and confusing. We aim to remove ALL music headaches from your production office and become the point of contact for all music negotiations, queries, disputes, advice on blanket licensing, risk analysis etc. WE are responsible for solving these problems!

We pride ourselves on bringing appropriate and original music ideas to the table. We love researching musical eras, genres and geographies to bring authentic sonic landscapes to the worlds you’re creating. We also understand that we’re here to help the creative process, not take it over. Directors, producers, writers and editors all have different views on music, and we adapt and plug into those views accordingly.

We have one-to-one relationships with publishers and labels worldwide, which positions us as the best people to negotiate song licensing costs on your behalf. We will get the best and fairest prices, and those savings alone usually cover the music supervision fee we charge.

Yes. Bringing your production in on budget is essential. We track and report costs and projections throughout. We also flag when unrealistic expectations may be arising from different departments, and update production so that sensible decisions can be made and a project can adapt as required. With the pressure on post schedules getting fiercer, a music editor is often the key to assisting the score process and ensuring you hit mix deadlines. Previously, our experience was that the music editor worked under the composer but lacked the link to the production’s vision. By bringing the music edit in line with the music supervision, the process becomes streamlined and cost-effective.

Transacting music licences is a notoriously convoluted process! Long after transmission, there will likely be publishers and labels who STILL haven’t sent you the fully-executed licence. But when you sell your show to a new territory, you need all this paperwork ready to go. We chase and track all paperwork until completion.
